Space, The Moon & All that Matters

August 03, 2015

Let's talk about space for a second - or a couple of minutes. I rarely talk about space related topics on my blog but it's really a massive fascination of mine. Space is such a marvellous thing..and that is just an understatement. There is so much out there, in our galaxy, in other galaxies, nonetheless in the universe, but we are so closed off to these wonders that it genuinely makes me sad, but also much more curious. We live on Earth, which is the third planet from the Sun and is quite small in relation to the other planets. Although we might feel like there are so many people living on this Earth, which there are indeed, it really is a small world. 7 billion humans living on a sphere is truly astonishing to think about. But what's also surreal to think about is the potential of other life living in our galaxy and the other billions of galaxies that reside in space. There are approximately 170 billion galaxies in the universe.  If you think about it, why wouldn't there be any other life form in a different galaxy, just like ours? Humans or non-humans, living on a planet or an exoplanet, striving to survive from different means in a galaxy that we are ignorant to. It's all a strong possibility. Now tell me you are not as curious as I am. It's kind of hard not to..

Now let's talk about the moon. The moon to me is a very special object in space. It's not just a magical feeling that consumes my every being whenever I marvel at its beauty, however it's a form of sustainability for our own Earth. It is Earth's only natural satellite. The moon is special to Earth; it stabilizes Earth's rotation, it gives light to the night with help from the Sun's reflection and it controls the tides of the ocean, which helps with wind and temperature. Basically, the moon is bad ass. Let's not forget there are about 146 moons that orbit the other planets in our solar system and currently 27 that are awaiting confirmation from astronomers. Whenever I look up to see the moon illuminating in the sky, it leaves me speechless. Such a stunning and remarkable ball of rocks and debris can suddenly turn an astronomical object into a feeling of love, nature, connectivity and self-identity. Without the moon, I wouldn't feel the magic nor the energy I encompass. Without the moon, I wouldn't have discovered my innate need to nurture, love and protect others. Without the moon, I wouldn't have found my inner self, my emotions, my spirituality. Without the moon, I and we wouldn't be balanced (both literally and figuratively speaking). I owe a lot to the moon and I will always be a creature of the moon.

Space is wonderful and magical and I encourage all of us to want to know more about it. To learn more about who we are, what we are and where we are in this universe. It's almost a shame not to..
