Remembrance Day
November 11, 2009In Flanders fields the poppies blow...
Remembrance day is a day to take the time to acknowledge the soldiers who had fought for Canada. Some people may think it's useless, and that they did not necessarily die for us. However, they're wrong. Many people don't care about what happened in the past, but if it wasn't for our soldiers, then we would not be here. We see each year in our schools, the work and effort put into making a remembrance day segment, but do we really listen? I know I do, because I care about our country, and even if we were not there for the war to happen, we are here now, and we should respect and show our love towards the soldiers. My anthropology teacher had said today, that it's nice to see our class mates paying attention and actually look interested in learning about Remembrance Day, but she had also said that, as soon as it's finished we walk out the door, and what do we learn? We go back to the same old routine, and forget everything we had learned in an instant. Of course some people do care and actually respect it, but many people are too caught up in gossip, friends, and worry about things that should not be as important. If we take the time to honor our troops and show everyone that we care and respect their families, then it'll give us a sense of pride that we are doing something good. Not only towards the soldiers and their families, but to ourselves. So should people really respect and care about Remembrance Day? I think it's up to you, but in the end we are Canadian citizens, and we should be happy that our country has strong, and powerful individuals who are willing to sacrifice their lives for us.If ye break faith with us who die, we shall not sleep, though poppies grow, in Flanders field...
